Reasons to hire an experienced Family Law Attorney
A matrimonial attorney with more than 19 years of experience will have handled many divorce cases, through many Supreme Courts with different judges presiding.
It’s similar to choosing a doctor. You don’t go to an orthopedist for a heart problem. It’s the same thing with attorneys. If you want to hire me to do a real estate closing, I’m certainly not nearly as qualified as somebody who specializes in real estate law.
When you have a family law problem or are looking at a divorce, you want to go a specialist. You want to hire someone that specializes in that area of law, not someone that has only handled a few divorce and/or family law cases. The general law practitioner is not going to be as intimately familiar with matrimonial and family law as a specialist, simply because the specialist is more familiar with the judges, and all of the issues that are likely to be discussed.
An experienced Family Law practitioner will know the nuances of the judges in the various counties, and for each practice area, depending on what you’re dealing with such as, child custody, child support maintenance and alimony. But what about some of the other family law practice areas, such as separation agreements?
The answer to that is pretty much the same thing. A matrimonial practitioner is somebody that specializes in just that. They’ve done hundreds, if not thousands, of separation agreements. And, not all separation agreements are created equal. Anyone can look on the Internet and get a form. You want something that’s tailored to your particular matter. Not all separation agreements are the same, because you want your agreement tailored to your particular issues. A prenuptial agreement should also be specifically tailored to your circumstances. And that’s something that only an experienced practitioner can do competently.
