30-49 year olds typically have more assets and a higher net worth than individuals who are between 20-29 years old. If you’re older hopefully you will have acquired more assets. Your children are going to be a bit older as well so that custody and visitation issues are not quite the same. But again one of the benefits of having an experienced attorney is that chances are they’ve done work before the same judge that your case will be assigned to. If there’s a law guardian for your children an experienced attorney is likely to have worked with them before on other cases and know how the law guardian thinks, their biases and what they are looking for.

Like judges who develop a reputation among attorneys, attorneys develop a reputation among judges. Judges are people. So if they had bad experiences, if they don’t like an attorney, even though they may try and be fair and judicious, it winds up hurting the client, because he doesn’t like the attorney, because they don’t trust the attorney, or because of any number of reasons. Hopefully, your attorney has established a relationship with the Judge assigned to your case, and hopefully it’s a positive one. For example, even if the judge is new, judges are like lawyers, like anyone else. They talk to each other. They’ll say, “Hey, I got this guy Cohen coming in. What can you tell me?” And, again, for me, hopefully, because I think one of my strengths is being able to deal with different personalities, the judges that I’ve dealt with over the years know that I’m knowledgeable, that I am honest and that I can be creative in resolving cases – there are judges who, as soon as the attorney walks in, they dislike the attorney so intensely that it winds up hurting their client. And sadly, most clients never know these things because they occur behind closed doors.
